Students should arrive by the date suggested in their acceptance letter. Prior to beginning classes they need to check-in with International Students and Scholars, obtain your Purdue student ID, establish a Purdue email account, attend orientation, and meet with an academic advisor. International Programs in Agriculture (IPIA) has an orientation a few days before classes begin. International Student and Scholars has an orientation for all Purdue international students. You will be notified of these orientation dates in the acceptance packet.
Arriving at Purdue
Students will probably fly into Chicago O'Hare International Airport or Indianapolis Airport. Once they arrive at the Indianapolis or Chicago O'Hare airport, they should plan on traveling to Lafayette, Indiana or West Lafayette, Indiana.
If they arrive by air in Indianapolis, there is a shuttle service called the "Lafayette Limo" that is available to bring you to Purdue University. It costs approximately $27 and must be paid in cash. Another service is Star of America. It costs $19 each way.
If they arrive by air in Chicago, there are three ways of getting to Purdue:
- Express Air Coach to West Lafayette Airport – A reservation must be made for this as soon as travel plans are known because it fills up fast.
- Greyhound Bus to Lafayette
- Amtrak (rail) to Lafayette
Students can also rent a car one-way from the airport to West Lafayette. Be sure that the car rental company has an office in Lafayette or West Lafayette so the car can be returned.
Once students arrive in West Lafayette or Lafayette, a person from our office (IPIA) will pick you up. We will take you to your residence. Email the travel plans to IPIA before leaving.
