Laurie is the connector for the Department. She cultivates relationships and seeks to connect the industry and alumni with food science students, faculty, and staff; and visa versa. She assists companies and industry professionals to connect with students (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) to hire students for internships and full-time positions; with faculty to explore possible research collaborations; with staff who manage programs, services, and facilities available for industry to tap into; and with philanthropic opportunities. She is a teaching assistant for three undergraduate food science seminar courses and one graduate seminar series in which Laurie teaches and mentors students in professional development, networking, interviewing, negotiating offers, career path exploration and development, strategic extracurricular skills development, and more. Laurie creates and facilitates opportunities for undergraduate and graduate food science students to engage with industry professionals and alumni. Laurie leads the Department's communication and marketing efforts via print, web, social media, and special events. She is a member of the Department's student recruiting team.
