After graduating from Purdue in 1998, I had temporary positions in Montana (field technician) and Washington DC (intern for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation). I accepted another temporary position in April of 1999 in southeastern Virginia. From April 1999 until October 2000, I worked on a National Guard installation in southeastern Virginia. It was originally a six-month position to help write the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan for the base. Well, six months has turned into more than eight years and I am still working for the Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech University, but I now work on campus in Blacksburg. My past and current work largely consists of writing and updating management plans, endangered and threatened species monitoring, and wildlife/habitat surveys on military installations throughout the southeastern U.S. My international experience includes a survey for bat and jaguar habitat in Belize and a volunteer trip with Habitat for Humanity in Ghana, West Africa. Memberships include the Virginia Society of Ornithology, Association of Field Ornithologists and the Association for Women in Development.

I graduated in the spring of 2007 with a Master of Public and International Affairs from Virginia Tech. My graduate project focused on women’s involvement in NGOs in Nepal. I was able to travel to Nepal and interview informal women’s groups and NGOs involved with handicraft production and community natural resources management. I hope to be able to work on sustainable development projects internationally in the near future. I would very much like to work anywhere in Africa and to continue my work in Nepal.
