"Forestry instruction at Purdue University began in 1905 with a two-semester sequence of courses listed as Biology 20 and 21," according to a department history written by Dennis LeMaster, department head from 1988 to 2004.
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources will celebrate its 100th birthday with a series of events on the West Lafayette campus Sept. 20–22. "The Centennial of Purdue University's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is a celebration of the lives of our graduates and the role FNR plays in preparing them to succeed and contribute," said department head Rob Swihart. "But we hope that September weekend is just a small part of the celebration."
