Alex Wild Photo.jpgEntomology alumnus Hongmei Li-Byarlay (PhD '07) and colleagues recently published an article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) on the role of DNA methylation in regulating alternative gene splicing in honey bees. Using RNA interference to knock down an enzyme required for DNA methylation, they discovered a decrease in genomic methylation and changes in alternative splicing.
