Botany and Plant Pathology Seminar Series
Speaker: Dr. Jeff Rosichan - Dow AgroSciences - Indianapolis, Indiana
Topic: Development of New Technologies through Collaborations in Agriculture
When: Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 3:30 pm in WSLR 116
Abstract:

Increasing  global demand  for agricultural  products,  combined with  limited  natural  resources  such  as  arable land and water resources, make it critical that new solutions for increase plant productivity are rapidly developed.  Crop biotechnology is now at a remarkable crossroads in which technology developments are rapidly changing our understanding of basic crop processes and yet the costs of many of these technologies, and the ability for any one organization to effectively mine the wealth of new information for crop improvement, is increasingly becoming a barrier to success.   The ability to mine natural genetic variation to allow the design and development of novel routes to create improved crop varieties is perhaps best facilitated via collaborative technology development programs that provide both open knowledge sharing for pre-competitive applications and proprietary product development for differentiated solutions.
