Hello! My name is Chris Petell and I am from Iowa. I earned a B.S. in biochemistry and microbiology from the University of Iowa. I have always wanted to be involved with research, as I have worked in labs every summer since high school, so deciding on graduate school was not difficult. However, choosing one was more challenging.

After interviewing at other schools, I decided to join the Department of Biochemistry graduate program at Purdue in the fall of 2011 because I was impressed with the research and the people working here. Everyone is very excited about their profession and passionate about their research, while still being personable and collaborative. While I felt that other large universities easily matched Purdue in research and funding, they all lacked that collaborative and excited atmosphere that is present here. To me, the choice became a trivial one.

After rotating in three labs my first year, I joined the Tran lab in Spring 2012. I am currently examining the regulation of the RNA helicase, Dbp2.
