Biochemistry Graduate Program
Graduate Studies in Biochemistry
Biochemists combine the principles of chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics to study the structure, organization and chemical reactions of biomolecules that constitute living organisms. It is an exciting period of rapid discovery in biochemistry, and we invite you to join us to create new insight into the natural world. Some of the research interests of our faculty include elucidating the molecular bases of chromosomal epigenetics in a variety of model systems, applying mass spectrometry to the study of cancer and cell cycle regulation, determining three-dimensional structures of proteins and nucleic acids that catalyze chemical reactions, and deciphering important biosynthetic pathways in plants and other organisms. Our faculty and students trade ideas in the classroom, the hallway and off campus as we support one another in a welcoming learning community intent on performing world-class research. As part of your Ph.D. training, you will learn to think critically and creatively so that you can make discoveries that you will communicate to the global scientific community. Our graduates go on to work in universities, research institutions, government and non-government agencies, and pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies.
Biochemists and Their Areas of Research
The members of the Department of Biochemistry are dedicated to making important research contributions in their fields. Many interact and collaborate with other scientists on the Purdue campus and at universities and research institutes around the world. Explore the links below for more information on the world-class research happening in the Biochemistry Department at Purdue.
Biochemistry graduate students take required core courses within the department, and have a wide variety of elective courses from which to choose from both within and outside of the department. We encourage you to visit us at Purdue to meet the supportive people within the department, to learn about our program and to experience the Greater Lafayette area.
