Hi everyone. I am Xiangying Mao from Shanghai, China. I graduated from Fudan University with my B.S. degree. I majored in Biotechnology, which enabled me to acquire knowledge of both biology and pharmaceutics.
I chose to begin my new graduate life in Purdue University in the fall of 2013. Moving from Shanghai to West Lafayette was a huge change to my life, however, I enjoy the peaceful and regular life here and I am so excited to be enrolled in the graduate program of the Department of Biochemistry. This is a really diverse department and everyone here is so nice.
After rotating in three different labs, I decided to join Dr. Chapple’s lab in spring 2014, mainly because I was fascinated by Mediator, an amazing complex that functions to regulate transcription. Lots of problems still remain to be solved and Arabidopsis could be a complicated yet powerful model system for us. Even though I have no prior experience in dealing with plants, I am still optimistic and want to say ‘Challenge accepted’.
In my spare time, I love music, novels, sports and pets. I learned to play accordion at 3 years old and it has become the best way to relax myself. I am also fond of playing badminton and running.
This picture was taken after my graduation from Fudan University. My clothing is a student uniform of the style from the 1920's or maybe earlier.
This picture is taken in a park in Shanghai, where I visited in spring 2013.
