The ambassador team plans and organizes many events throughout the year for prospective students, current students, and alumni. Some of our events include:
The Outreach committee Preview Days and Tours plans and organizes Preview Days each spring semester. This involves 3-4 Saturday programs that are designed for students that have been admitted to our department but have not yet accepted their offer. The ambassador team hosts prospective students and their families in a day of activities that include student panels, a vet school tour, a departmental tour, lunch at a dining court, and a tour of the Purdue Animal Science Education and Research Center (ASREC).
This event is a great opportunity to educate the public about animal agriculture, as well inform them of the different Animal Science clubs affiliated with Purdue. Boiler Barnyard gives the public an opportunity to see different species of livestock, milk a dairy cow, hold a baby chick, and play interactive and educational games. There is also food provided such as brats and hamburgers from Purdue's very own Boilermaker Butcher Block.
Welcome Back Picnic
The Student Life committee plans and organizes the Welcome Back ANSC Picnic each fall as a welcome for new students as well as returning students. Other Purdue ANSC organizations are invited to share information about their organizations and clubs. A few industry companies and corporations may also be invited for students to network.
Book-Harmon Leadership Forum
Once a semester, the Book-Harmon Leadership Forum provides students with the opportunity to learn from alumni and industry leaders about leadership in the Animal Sciences industry. The Alumni Relations committee helps organize ambassador hosts for speakers of the event and its members are present at the Forum to help facilitate, as needed.
Ag Fish Fry
The Alumni Relations Committee organizes a group of ANSC ambassadors each Spring to attend the annual Ag Alumni Fish Fry held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Ambassadors present a display about the Animal Sciences department, answer any questions, and help serve lunch to alumni who attend.
Each Fall, alumni return to Purdue to attend the Animal Sciences Homecoming Reunion. The Alumni Relations committee helps organize and plan the activities of this event, in addition to organizing all ambassador involvement.
Distinguished Alumni Award Reception (DAA)
Each Fall, the Animal Sciences Department recognizes six distinguished alumni through the Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Awards Reception. The Alumni Relations committee helps organize the afternoon reception and evening dinner, in which alumni speak on their endeavors in the Animal Sciences Industry.
Young Alumni Picnic
Each Spring, the Alumni Relations committee hosts a picnic for young Animal Sciences alumni. This event is held in conjunction with Boiler Barnyard at Springfest and is intended to bring together alumni and their families.
