Agronomy Graduate Education​

Purdue Agronomy strives to have an impact on global challenges that face the world today. Graduate students can be part of this global impact. Through the combination of teaching, research and outreach, students have the option to be part of three major areas: Genetic Improvement of Economic Crops, Cropping Systems and Plant Nutrition and Environmental Soils and Landscape Processes. Whichever track students choose, they will be working with award winning faculty who have a passion for agronomic improvement.

Cropping Systems and Plant Nutrition 

Cropping systems are the heart of agriculture. Faculty and students create and develop management systems that enhance crop production and economic efficiency related to crop, soil and surroundings for the agriculture producer.





Environmental Soils and Landscape Processes 

Research and education in this area focus on processes and development of measures to control soil erosion and contamination of soil and water from organic and inorganic sources. Studies range from remote sensing on large-field scales to specific soil biological, chemical, and physical properties to enhance crop productivity.




Genetic Improvement of Economic Crops 

Graduate research and education in Genetic Improvement of Economic Crops within the Department of Agronomy uses both basic and applied science to study how genes affect the growth of plants.
