Purpose Statement
The job of Staff Accountant - Balance Sheet was established for the purpose of providing support for the Accounting Department with specific responsibility for asset and liability accounts including monitoring, measuring, and reconciling those accounts; and, providing instructions and/or accounting support in accordance with required and established practices. 
Essential Functions
       General Ledger
o    Responsible for the quality and accuracy of all asset and liability account balances on the General Ledger; reconciles accounts on a monthly basis; researches entries and makes corrections when necessary.
o    Coordinates and ensures the assignment and reconciliation of all sub-ledger accounts.
       Fixed Assets
o    Records, updates, and maintains all fixed assets on the depreciation software application and maintains supporting documentation.
       Inventory Analysis
o    Monitors parts inventory general ledger accounts and reconciles to physical parts inventory.  Responsible for coordinating physical inventory counts and procedures with Operations via cycle counts and/or annual physical inventories.
o    Review and reconcile equipment inventory for each assigned location.   
       Sales/Use Tax
o    Reconciles and remits all sales tax payments and reconciles accounts on a monthly basis.
o    Ensures compliance with all state/federal sales/use tax registration and filings. 
       Fleet Management
o    Maintains records of all fleet vehicles and coordinates acquisition, transfer, and disposal of fixed assets for the Company. 
o    Adds, updates, and removes user permissions for fleet fuel card usage and distributes monthly fuel reports as needed. 
       Other accounting support including but are not limited to:
o    Post miscellaneous journal entries as necessary.
o    Provide assistance and support with audits as needed.
o    Recommends policy and drafts written procedures related to assigned responsibilities.
o    Other duties as assigned by the Controller.     
Other Functions
       Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Accounting Department.
·         Interact with all other departments and employees on a professional basis responding to requests as needed in an effort to promote teamwork.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: office practices; operating equipment; and use of technology
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: accounting/bookkeeping principles; and office equipment/software including Microsoft Office.    
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.  Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.    Problem solving with data requires independent  interpretation  of  guidelines;  and  problem  solving  with  equipment  is  limited  to  moderate.    Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with detailed information/data.
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
This position in the Staff Accountant – Balance Sheet reports to the Controller
Prior work experience in balance sheeting accounting preferred.  Additional experience in sales/use tax accounting desirable.
