Tomato Operations Manager
Reports To: Owner
Type: Full-time
Red Hen Turf Farm is a diverse farm business that specializes in growing quality seed corn, tomatoes, turf grass sod, and grain.  Located in New Carlisle, Indiana, we combine deep roots with progressive, forward-thinking business practices. We focus on superior customer service and providing value to all of our customers.  Our operation will continue to evolve and diversify in agriculture. 
We are looking for a full-time Operations Manager to join our team.  This is a hands-on, working manager that will manage the Tomato operations including planting, growing, agronomy and harvest.

Essential Responsibilities
Ø Manage field operations (April through October)
ê Manage all inputs, seed, chemical and fertilizer
ê Manage tomato planting, harvest, tillage and irrigation operations
ê Manage performance, direction and daily tasks of seasonal crew and operators
ê Oversee the spraying of the fields, ensure accurate application and operator maintains spray records
ê Work closely with tomato contractor and outside agronomy and/or other consultants to make in-field adjustments to inputs, watering schedule, etc. to ensure optimal yield
ê Understand crop stages and growth habits to ensure the right fertilizer and chemical application
ê Ensure safety procedures and OSHA compliance are met
ê Ensure operational efficiency in the field, focusing on reducing downtime and utilizing the appropriate amount of labor
Ø Produce Shipments
ê Assist with dispatching drivers for tomato delivery
ê Ensure quality of tomatoes being shipped
Ø  Other responsibilities
ê Ensure compliance with food safety standards per customer requirements and federal requirements
ê Communicate consistently with Owner on field conditions, growth stages, challenges etc.
ê Provide a list of ideas for improvement post-plant and post-harvest to continually improve the tomato process
ê Maintenance of equipment (hands-on) and assistance with others
ê Assist with other crops and trucking as needed
Ø  Winter month tasks(November through March)
ê Manage tiling projects
ê Hands on equipment maintenance
ê Manage GPS units, tracking, data collection
Job Requirements (Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and any physical requirements)
Ø  Education:
o    BS in Agriculture, crop and soil sciences or related field a plus, but not required
Ø  KSAs:
o    Operation experience and vegetable farm experience a plus
o    Experience in leading/supervising a team
o    Ability to lead a team, provide clear direction, candid feedback, motivation and coaching for improvements
o    Basic knowledge of computer programs such as word and excel and be able to use the internet
o    Ability to work extended hours especially through plant and harvest
o    Ability to communicate clearly to Owners
Ø  Physical:
o    Be able to be in a standing, moving, bending, lifting and pulling positions throughout the day
o    Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
o    Be able to drive a vehicle
