Job Description: Generate NextGeneration Sequencing data for tropical forest research. Ideal for a student
Duties: Perform nucleic acid extractions (DNA and RNA) from leaf samples. Analyze NextGeneration Sequencing
data for patterns and collate results into tables and spreadsheets. Use NCBI BLAST to compare and contrast
results. This position will involve independent work and teamwork with graduate student. Travel is possible, but
Knowledge Required: Preferred applicants will be undergraduate students in Forestry and Natural Resources or
closely related department. Experience with basic laboratory techniques required; previous experience with
nucleic acid extraction and sterile technique a plus. Must have good attention to detail with good organizational
and data management skills, interpersonal skills, and be self-motivated. Applicant should be enthusiastic and
motivated. Should be capable of using various computer software programs including but not limited to Microsoft
Office and ArcGIS.
